Bridge of Flowers is OPEN

Soil work is complete and replanting is underway! Our gardeners are now returning some of the larger trees and bushes to the Bridge as a first step towards replanting the gardens.

When large plantings are in place, the gates will be reopened to the public while gardeners begin returning hundreds of perennials and myriad colorful annuals to the garden beds.

For gardening enthusiasts and plant lovers, this is an opportunity for a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how the Bridge of Flowers springs to life after a long, cold winter.

Updates are ongoing - watch for announcements on bridgeofflowersmass.org, the Bridge's Facebook page and here on this webpage.

Opening April 1, 2026 (Just Without Flowers — for Now!)

The Bridge of Flowers officially opened for the season on April 1, welcoming visitors back for springtime strolls across the Deerfield River — just a little earlier than the blooms. While the bridge will be open to walk, the gardens themselves are in transition. Once upcoming soil work is complete, our dedicated gardeners and Blossom Brigade volunteers will be out daily, carefully replanting and renewing the beloved displays that make the bridge so special. We appreciate your patience during this short seasonal reset — and we promise it will be worth the wait!

Be sure to join us for our annual Bridge of Flowers Plant Sale on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Baptist Lot (Main and Water Streets). The sale runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, rain or shine, and is a wonderful way to support the bridge while bringing home something beautiful for your own garden. We look forward to seeing you on the bridge soon!

Each year, more than 100,000 people visit the Bridge for its spectacular 3-season beauty.

2025: The Rebirth of the Bridge of Flowers

Where Did All the Flowers Go?

In 2024, every flower, shrub and tree was uprooted, all the lights, railings and benches were removed, and the soil was scraped away so that crucial repairs could be made to the iconic bridge.

Many, many plants were carefully dug up and rehoused with local gardeners who have cared for them throughout the year.

Bolstering the Bridge

The $3,198,000 project replaced a failing wall and repaired cracks, and the entire Bridge was sandblasted and repainted.

A new water main, irrigation system, handrail, lighting, and pathway were installed.

Artful Additions

The renovated bridge features new wrought iron arbors and signs and a granite compass rose medallion - marking the border of the towns of Buckland and Shelburne - that were handcrafted by local artisans.

A "Baby" Garden

Hundreds of new flowering trees, shrubs, perennials, vines, bulbs, and annuals - including an abundance of new varieties to pique the interest of the most voracious plant connoisseurs - were planted by our master gardener, the Shelburne Falls Women's Club's Bridge of Flowers Committee, and their dedicated volunteer gardeners, "The Blossom Brigade."

And, by autumn, most of the re-homed plants from the former garden will be returned to the Bridge as well.

Wondering how this huge and complex rehab project played out?

Fortunately the Bridge of Flowers Committee documented the process.
